Sustainable transport systems are a key driver of economic, social and environmental well-being but the provision of adequate transport services in rural areas remains problematic. Accessibility to rural areas, and the mobility of goods and passengers within, is a key challenge. The Digital Economy seeks to use digital technologies to improve transport services and information systems for rural areas.

The accessibility and mobilities team and its partners are providing more flexible and integrated transport services to rural communities and updating rural passengers with real-time travel and transport information, through the development of novel technologies.
