Doctoral training

Doctoral students are an important part of the dot.rural research community, and the Hub provides a challenging interdisciplinary environment for researcher training and development.

Students in the current cohort of 22 students come from 11 countries across 4 continents, and have backgrounds in 9 different disciplines ranging from engineering to linguistics. Students are fully integrated into project teams (where applicable), and there are many informal mentoring relationships in place between postdoctoral fellows and students. All students are expected to participate in a range of training and public engagement activities., including:

  • dot.rural Seminars
  • dot.rural Journal Club
  • informal working groups
  • dot.rural training events such as interdisciplinary workshops
  • generic skills training through the University of Aberdeen
  • Digital Economy Docfest Summer Schools

These activities are supported by a dedicated training and outreach officer, Jennifer Holden
