Digital Advanced Rural Testbed (DART)
Avanti Communications are working with dot.rural researchers as part of the Technology Strategy Board funded Digital Testbed: Network Service Demonstrators. Partnership Funding contributed £180k towards the overall costs of the DART activity - to ensure that dot.rural were fully integrated into the work programme.
Trusted Mobile Platform for the Self-Management of Chronic Illness in Rural Areas
This large UK-India project received £2.9M of funding from the UK Research Councils and Government of India, Department of Science & Technology. dot.rural made a Partnership Fund contribution to support a related PhD studentship at Lancaster University (lead: Dr Chris Edwards) and to establish a dot.rural mini 'spoke' in India. The latter was designed to facilitate staff and student exchanges between dot.rural and Indian institutions and to organise a number of UK-India workshops.
Cybermoor
Working with a social enterprise based in the village of Alston in Cumbria, dot.rural Partnership Funds are supporting a study of the impact of rural next generation Internet access on the local economy and community.
Framework for Responsible Research & Innovation in ICT (FRRIICT)
Following the 'ICT Research - The Next Decade' workshop held by the EPSRC ICT Programme in 2010, Marina Jirotka (Oxford) and Bernd Stahl (De Montfort) received funding to establish a network to explore the issue of ethics in ICT research; dot.rural provided £10k of Partnership Fund support to the FRRIICT activity, in recognition of the importance of ethical issues in Digital Economy research.
