Research

Research in dot.rural brings together a range of academic disciplines (many of them working together for the first time) to explore how digital technologies can help transform the lives of rural communities in the UK and beyond. The interdisciplinary nature of our research is reflected both in the shape of projects, and in the manner in which different research methods and cultures are blended in the cause of innovation. Project activities sit at the interface between the following rural challenges:

Accessibility & Mobilities
Enterprise & Culture
Healthcare
Natural Resource Conservation

and one or more of these technology areas:

Natural Language Generation & Affective Communication
Reasoning, Coordination & Collaboration
Intelligent Information Infrastructures
Internet Engineering

Cross-cutting activities include impact assessment, public engagement and work to investigate digital engagement and resilience in rural communities.
