Thursday 23rd September 2010, 12.50 pm - 1.35 pm, Portlethen Library, Portlethen

Brian Masson of dot.rural will review the development of Demand Responsive and Flexible Transport Services utilising ITS systems, exploring the links with dot.rural’s Accessibility & Mobility research priorities. He has been actively involved in this research area for more than a decade.

An explanation of how multi-modal systems are being delivered in Europe utilising a ‘virtual agency’ will also be provided. Such systems maximise the use of existing resources to meet local demands. The ability to establish the total demands of rural areas is important to help sustainable development. Brian will highlight how no single mode of transport can meet all the needs of society, demonstrating the need for integration and coordination of all services.
