Research which takes place on NHS premises, involves NHS staff or NHS patients or facilities will have to be reviewed by the North of Scotland Research Ethics Service (NOSRES)

Research involving animals or biological samples are subject to Home Office regulations. For appropriate forms and procedures governing ethical review of these, please contact Mr Iain Grant, Clerk to the Advisory Group on Research Ethics and Governance, in the Policy, Planning and Governance Section of the University Office (i.grant@abdn.ac.uk).

Under the University's Research Ethics Framework the following types of research may require detailed ethical review:

• Research involving humans (not NHS staff or patients) or human remains
• Research involving personal or commercial or otherwise sensitive data or information
• Research involving the natural environment, where there is significant risk of harm to research or other staff or participants or the environment
• Research which may have an adverse impact on national security
